Making slow and steady progress on my white knight. Had a fun two weeks of flu and cold back to back (one of the hidden joys of motherhood) and so wasn't feeling up to doing a whole lot. But it's shaping up nicely. Many times when I'm working on a painting and finish it over the course of a week, it's too fast to get any perspective and objectivity, and I end up absolutely hating the piece and thinking it's awfulterribad. Only after a week or two of shutting it away in my closet can I look at it and see that I do like it (or not). Working much more slowly like this, I'm having more time to get a clearer opinion of the piece as I go, and what things to change, and what direction to move. So I suppose it's having its benefits as well!
Wow! Two weeks of agony :D Glad to hear you're feeling better now. Love the birch trees, like your 'Maestro of Birds' painting.
ReplyDeleteGood to know you're better! Fantastic work, we're both working on knights :D
ReplyDeleteGlad to see some new work Stephanie :), somehow after the amazing Tarot many other of your works since have not really catched my attention as much, for whatever reason. Maybe simply because you set the expectation so high with that amazing set. But lately, even though the works are coming in slower (or because of that?) I absolutely love them. =)
ReplyDeleteAnd just to let you know, even though I know it won't (and shouldn't) be relevant to your style: I love your more fiery pieces such as the Phoenix for example.
Thank you for inspiring me with your work yet again, I think it's time to take out my brushes again. :)
Lots of Love from Luxembourg ;)
Gabriela
I'm sorry to hear you were so sick recently, and I do hope you're feeling better!!
ReplyDelete"Awfulterribad?" I like it... it definitely sums up the *narf* feeling that can happen after finishing some pieces. :)
everything has his own reasons...
ReplyDeleteThanks all for the well wishes!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's a bit of the feeling from "Maestro of Birds" to that birch forest. But I've always kinda loved the contrasts in a grove of birches. I'll post some photos I've taken that were inspiration in my next entry.
Gabriela - thanks! It sometimes makes me anxious these days that I can't paint as many paintings as I did in the past, so it helps to know that people at least are appreciating the quality if not quantity. You are not the first person who has mentioned that, and so it is encouraging to me.
Kitsune - haha I can't take credit for "terribad". That's my inner gamer-geek coming out, using that word.
