Vertical Aspirations
Vertical Aspirations
Size: 10x16 inches
Medium: Watercolors
Detail views & Prints available -here-
A lotus is symbol of purity, rising from the mud and muck at the bottom of a pond to spread untainted and beautiful petals to the world above. And the carp who swim endlessly upstream to attain the perfection of transformation into a dragon.
Some sketches along the way. Sketchbook brainstorming, digital thumbnailing, and final working sketch on the painting surface.

Another feedback request
First of all, many thanks to all the very helpful feedback I received to my recent query about the cover for an upcoming book! Not only was the response extremely helpful, it also showed me how enthusiastic everyone is about the prospect! Rest assured I'm working to get it released sometime before the end of this year.
Another poll now however. I'm working with VOOTTOO (who currently produces Skin products for devices), on some new ideas. Sarvesh has been combing the world for unique products of handmade quality, produced by craftspeople and artists, in order to pair with visual artwork. One of the upcoming ideas is for 20"x20" or 18"x24" silk scarves, printed with artwork. For an initial test range, I'm working with him to select about 8 pieces of my art. If this is something you would be interested in, we'd love to hear back from you on which of these following pieces you would like to see in this form. Feel free to pick as many of these as you want. We welcome all feedback!
Unfurling *** One White Soul *** Dragon
Flight *** Moonbathing *** Offerings
Final Sleep *** A Dream of Grace

Climbing the Dragon Gate III
Medium: Watercolors
Size: 6x18 inches
Detail closeups views & prints available -here-
Revisiting the dragon gate theme in this commissioned piece.
In Chinese and Japanese legend the lowly carp spends its life trying to swim up the Yellow River. At the source of the river is a great roaring waterfall. If the koi were able to swim up that waterfall, it would be rewarded and transformed into a dragon. Thus, the koi is a symbol of personal advancement, perseverance, determination in the face of impossible obstacles, and inner strength. The journey of the carp to become a dragon was a metaphor for young scholars passing the Chinese state exams and become a mandarin.
